Airborne Dog Helps Catch Osama bin Laden

By
In dog, news

In honor of the victims of 9/11 World Trade Center Disaster, and men, women, and dogs who worked tirelessly to serve this country in one of its lowest moments in history.

It’s a bird.

It’s a plane!

No… it’s ..

… huh?..

A dog!

Yeap. A DOG helped the US military catch the most wanted man on the face of the planet: Osama bin Laden.

A team of 79 commandos was teamed up with a bomb sniffing dog, who were lowered down from a helicopter.

According to the Sun:

Heavily armoured hounds — equipped with infrared night-sight cameras — have been used in the past by the top-secret unit.

The war dogs wear ballistic body armour that is said to withstand damage from single and double-edged knives, as well as protective gear which shields them from shrapnel and gunfire.

German Shepherds have been leading the way in SAS raids in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wearing oxygen masks, the pooches have been trained to jump from aircraft at 25,000ft, before seeking out insurgents in hostile environments

Yes, dogs have come a LONG way from sniffing just poop, other dogs’ butts, and bed bugs.

I gotta say, this is WAY better than that story of people using dogs as suicide bombers.

Here are some pictures of airborne military dogs:

And here’s a video from WAY BACK in the days when dogs were being trained to parachute off airplanes with their handlers:
